Thiago Alcántara will leave Liverpool at the end of this season, according to reports from Spain.
The midfielder featured only once this season, with injuries restricting his game time with the Reds.
Thiago’s deal will expire in June and ‘will not renew’ his contract at Liverpool according to Friday’s edition of Sport.
The 33-year-old has struggled with multiple injuries since he arrived at Anfield in 2020, but has constantly received support from Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool.
Back in January, the Spaniard was advised to meet different specialists for his hip injury so that he could be available for selection in the final phase of this season. This was also needed to renew the contract, but that won’t be happening anymore.
Sport suggest the Liverpool player could be an option for Girona in the summer window as he would suit manager Míchel. There’s been some contacts between the two parties and the former Barcelona man would prefer a return to Catalonia.
Journalist Luis Martín told Carrusel Deportivo’s El Bar, relayed by El Desmarque, that the player ‘will not renew’ his contract at Liverpool. He adds Thiago has options in Spain and England, to continue his career.
“One of the options is Girona, who are looking at the market but the season is not over yet. He has an offer from Real Betis to return to Spain. He also has two others from England,” Martín explained, without providing any details of the English clubs.
If Sport’s report is to be believed Thiago favours a move back to Spain over extending his stay in England.
