Aston Villa are keen on signing Villarreal’s Juan Foyth in the winter market.

This was revealed by Unai Emery after Aston Villa’s 1-1 draw against West Ham United on Sunday. El Desmarque have relayed his comments.

Emery knows the centre-back from his time at the La Liga side and wants to reunite with him at Aston Villa in this window.

“I know him because I’ve worked with him. He’s one of the players who, with his quality, can act in various positions. We want to sign him for our team,” he said.

Aston Villa have made advances to secure this rapid deal, according to claims from Spain.

Monday’s edition of Marca says the Yellow Submarine are well aware of the Villans’ desire to sign the 27-year-old. They have received the first offer from the Premier League side and the figures aren’t mentioned.

Marca claim the proposal hasn’t convinced the Spanish club, but it leaves the door open for negotiations.

Another Spanish newspaper, AS, also state Emery’s side have made an offer for Foyth, without mentioning figures or Villarreal’s demand. They add the proposal isn’t far from the La Liga side’s request for the Argentina international.

The report states: ‘The key lies in the player’s decision, who must evaluate whether to accept the offer to go out in this market.’

AS state the negotiations are still open between all three parties. A decision on Foyth’s future will be made ‘within hours’, meaning developments are expected shortly.

If the former Tottenham Hotspur man agrees to a move, Emery’s side can secure a rapid deal.
