Last month, Newcastle United announced that Antonio Cordero will join them on a free transfer on July 1st. The Premier League side also confirmed the 18-year-old will be sent out on loan this summer, to continue his development.
Fast forward to end of July and Málaga’s SportDirect Radio reports the winger is set for a move to KVC Westerlo.
It’s claimed the Newcastle player ‘will soon’ head to Belgium to join the Jupiler Pro League club on loan.
Westerlo started this season with a 5-2 defeat to Anderlecht at the weekend. The 18-year-old’s arrival would strengthen their attack, and help him make progress with his development.
According to the radio station, the Magpies’ intention was to send the player on loan to a club that will play in Europe this season. That wouldn’t be the case with Westerlo as they failed to qualify for any European competition.
It hasn’t worked out the way Newcastle wanted, but they’re said to be prepared to let the Spain U19 international move to Westerlo on loan.
This report hasn’t been backed up by others in Spain, Belgium or England so far.
