Arsenal youngster Marcelo Flores continues to have his name featured in the Mexican media.

Last month, his father proudly told the entire country that the player would be signing his first professional contract with Arsenal. At that time, they had already reached an agreement with the Gunners, and were waiting for him to turn 17-years-of-age.

The deal was confirmed by the London side last week, now, Marcelo Flores will apparently get chances to show his progress with the club.

His dad Ruben Flores has spoken to Radio Fórmula, and revealed that the midfielder has been training among the big boys.

“Here the structure of football in the teams is a little different than what we are used to, and the fact that Marcelo has signed his professional contract doesn’t mean that he trains with the first team every day,” Ruben Flores told Radio Fórmula (via AS).

“All the teams train in the same venue, they call those from the U23, which had been the reserves, and the U18, which are the youngest, who are given a scholarship to study and play football.”

“For the players who they see a little more future for and want them to be in the team, they give them a little more calm, patience, to stay at the club. They’re not worried about early professional contracts, like Marcelo, who will continue to play with the U18s, but already trains in the first team a couple of times a week, when they need him, and continues his process with the U18s. Tomorrow they need players with the U23s and he’ll take part with them, but it goes step by step.”

Marcelo Flores joined Arsenal in a move from Ipswich Town last year. He has two sisters playing in London, as they both feature for Chelsea’s youth ranks.

His father has also been speaking to the Mexican media about their international future, since they were born in Mexico, raised in Canada and then moved to England with British citizenship. Marcelo hasn’t made a final decision yet.
