Tottenham’s efforts this transfer window seem to have revolved around bringing in a Brazilian wide player.
Now edging closer with a deal to sign Lucas Moura from PSG, the first choice was Malcom.
Brazil’s UOL report the youngster was left ‘delighted’ after a meeting with Mauricio Pochettino last week. The Tottenham manager explained he’d turn Malcom into a star player in Europe within a maximum of three years.
It all left Malcom and his people ‘convinced’ Spurs were the ‘best option’ for the player, despite having also spoken to Arsenal. Moving to the London club was seen as the player’s ‘imminent destiny’.
But Bordeaux have stood firm, against a straight January transfer and even an agreement to sell Malcom but keep him on loan until the end of the season.
Now everything is paused for the summer, and Malcom’s people will no doubt be concerned with the Lucas developments.
The Bordeaux player’s transfer has gone from being on the boil to simmering on the back burner, and a lot will depend on whether the Lucas transfer happens and how the current PSG player does between now and the summer.
Whilst Lucas is primarily a right winger, Malcom can also play on the left and as a striker.
If Erik Lamela’s days at Tottenham are numbered and Georges-Kévin N’Koudou also leaves on a permanent transfer, perhaps there’s room for two flying Brazilians at Spurs.
