Friday’s edition of L’Equipe has a big feature on youngsters who have left PSG, and what they’re now doing elsewhere.
One of those is Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard, who it’s pointed out has scored four goals in five matches against Rangers.
The Glasgow match continues to have a mythical status around the European sport media, and because of his record against Steven Gerrard’s men, L’Equipe call Edouard the ‘Young King of Scotland’.
Celtic’s last match against Rangers was in the Scottish Premiership on March 31st, when the 21 year old scored the first goal before Ryan Kent got the equaliser, with James Forrest getting the winner. Alfredo Morelos was sent off during the match, with Andy Halliday seeing red after a post-game scuffle in the tunnel.
L’Equipe say that Edouard is feeling very at home since moving to Celtic, and explain that after the Rangers match he met fans outside, gave a shirt to a youngster, and handed out autographs to others.
On the match itself, he explained: “It’s an extraordinary atmosphere, the best I’ve ever had in a stadium. There is a big rivalry, it’s an important match for the fans. Me, I take it in the same way as others. With the same energy.”
There’s a slant of what might have been in the story, with it being pointed out Eric Choupo-Moting is getting games for PSG, so Edouard may have had his chance.
He has no regrets: “From the moment I made that choice, I assume it, I have no regrets. There is inevitably a risk when leaving. But staying as well. I do not set limits, I want to be one of the best attackers. And the big ones, they acquired maturity while playing.”
