A month ago, Manchester United’s Facundo Pellistri revealed he wasn’t happy with his loan spell at Alavés last campaign and stressed he wants continuity in the 2022/23 season.
The young forward was restricted to 21 appearances in the league, which included just six league starts, during his time there.
He returned to Manchester United, waiting to know where he will play next. The 20-year-made it in Erik ten Hag’s pre-season squad and managed to shine when given opportunities.
However, the Uruguay international suffered an ankle injury in the friendly against Atlético Madrid in Oslo on July 30th.
According to AS, the winger will be out of action for the next six to eight weeks, meaning he won’t be available for selection at least until mid-September.
In other words, Pellistri won’t regain fitness before the summer window closes and will not be able to make a move elsewhere, even if it’s on a loan deal.
Therefore, the option to leave Old Traffird ‘has been ruled out’ and ‘will play for Manchester United this season’.
AS state this is good news for Ten Hag, who will have an additional player to choose from in his attack, at least in the first half of the season, as wingers like Pellistri aren’t exactly plentiful at the club these days.
