Anthony Elanga has impressed for Nottingham Forest this season.

The winger has scored three goals and has eight assists to his name, having played 26 times in the Premier League.

Despite his good run of form for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, Elanga was excluded from Sweden’s squad during the international break back in October.

Manager Jon Dahl Tomasson’s decision caught the attention of many in Sweden. He has now spoken to Expressen about the Nottingham Forest star, revealing that the player has not answered any of his calls since the exclusion.

He said: “I have called and also sent messages, but he has not answered.

“I’m very happy to see that he’s doing well. He’s one of the players we’re following. I called Elanga a total of seven times. And sent messages. So the ball is in his court now.”

When asked why Elanga hasn’t responded, Tomasson stated that only the 22-year-old can know the reason for that.

“I can’t give a good answer to that. I can only say that right now he’s doing well and we’re following the games.”

The Sweden boss was also asked whether the ex-Manchester United player wants to play for the country or not.

He said: “I think you should ask him.”

Further, Tomasson was also asked about any off-field issues involving Elanga, and responded: “What happens in the squad stays in the squad.”

It seems as if the 48-year-old has spoken rather diplomatically, while also pointing out that Elanga has had some issues that need resolving.

As things stand, everything comes down to how the Nottingham Forest star responds – on and off the pitch. He still has a chance to play for the national team in the future and considering his form for the Tricky Trees, Sweden can also benefit from his presence.
