Mainz’s Yoshinori Muto is on the verge of becoming of Newcastle United player, reports Kicker on Wednesday afternoon.
Kicker say they’ve been ‘in consultation’ with Japanese colleagues and whilst official confirmation of the deal hasn’t been provided yet by the clubs, it’s thought to be a close thing.
Kyodo news agency in Japan believe the deal could be done quickly and Kicker say the transfer is ‘almost perfect’.
This comes after Newcastle United put forward a proposal to both player and club which was deemed a ‘mutually suitable offer’, everyone is presented as being happy with the potential transfer.
On Tuesday German newspaper Bild reported that Newcastle and West Ham were the main contenders, and that a move to the Premier League was becoming increasingly likely.
Mainz director Rouven Schröder was quoted as saying: “The English have definitely woken up, there is now increased interest in Yoshi.”
There’s no mention from Kicker today of what the offer for Newcastle is, or what Mainz were hoping for.
