West Brom have reportedly made another attempt to sign William Carvalho on deadline day.
On August 29th, the Baggies had already submitted a €25m offer for the midfielder. At the time, the bid was reported by O Jogo and Record.
Now O Jogo are claiming they tried again two days after, and this time, they offered €30m plus €5m in bonuses.
This amount was very close to what Sporting were demanding, which was €35m up front. However, the situation forced Sporting to refuse it without thinking much.
The reason for that was because they were already in negotiations with Leicester to sell Adrien Silva, Carvalho’s midfield partner.
They also didn’t want to let one more star go, since Islam Slimani and João Mário had already left, and Sporting have the ambition to count on the stars in their squad to fight for titles.
There was also the issue that the bid was too late, and the club wouldn’t have time to find a replacement for Carvalho before the window closed.
Sporting would now be planning to offer the player a new contract soon. As O Jogo mentions, he was linked to Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United in the past few seasons.
