Newcastle United and Everton are currently the Premier League clubs being linked most with a move for Aaron Ramsey, as Juventus try their very best to get rid of the Wales international.
Earlier today we covered claims from Tuttosport, who explained there was a meeting on Thursday between an agent representing Ramsey, and Juventus officials.
Gazzetta dello Sport back that up, reporting David Baldwin was the man representing the midfielder in a Turin discussion.
Newcastle and Everton both get a mention, and Gazzetta explain how the situation stands.
Juventus won’t terminate the midfielder’s contract, because that would mean they’d have to pay his salary until the end of his deal, which runs until June 2023. There is a ‘yes to the sale’, which would see Ramsey leave the Serie A club in a ‘traditional’ transfer, presumably at zero cost, and then his new club pick up his wages.
In previous windows, those wages have ‘scared every possible buyer’. There’s a good chance the money, which Tuttosport put at €7m a year, and Gazzetta at €8m (both likely after tax), would be too much for the Toffees, which leaves Newcastle.
That said, even the Magpies could be reluctant to commit such wages to a player who turns 31-years-of-age this month and has a poor fitness record.
On top of that, he doesn’t exactly appear to be fighting his way out of Turin, and Newcastle need to make sure any new signings are as committed to the club as possible… and not just the contract on offer.
