Even before Chelsea played Milan in the Champions League, it was clear the Blues wanted Rafael Leao.
The player has been on Todd Boehly’s list since the summer, and the stories about a potential move in either January or next summer have been doing the rounds for a while.
It would take a huge amount of money for Milan to accept a transfer, at least over €100m, but it’s something they will have to potentially brace themselves for if they cannot get their star to renew.
Either way, despite Chelsea beating the Serie A side 3-0 on Wednesday night, one thing became very apparent to everyone at Stamford Bridge: Rafael Leao is very good.
Milan might not have had the best game overall, but the Portuguese forward was the only real danger throughout the game, and Gazzetta dello Sport highlight that.
They give the forward the best grade out of all his teammates, and believe that ‘Stamford Bridge has stamped his passport: yes, he has the level to play here’.
His constant drive was the only real threat to Chelsea’s defence, and things could have been different had he found the back of the net before the end of the first half.
One thing is near certain, and that is that Leao scored a lot of brownie points on Wednesday night.
