Eintracht Frankfurt initially took Robin Koch on a loan deal from Leeds United last summer and his stay there was made permanent earlier this year.
The centre-back’s impressive displays for the Bundesliga side have helped him return to the Germany squad for the ongoing international break.
His desire to represent the national team at the Euros in the summer was one of the reasons for leaving Leeds. That’s according to this week’s edition of SportBild, who have also had a chat with the 27-year-old.
After a few years of absence, Koch has now returned to the national team squad, and was directly asked whether leaving Leeds last summer was ‘worth it’ for this reason alone.
Responding to that, he said: “Yes, you can say that. The topic of the national team played a part in my decision [to leave Leeds] and it’s very nice that it turned out that way.”
The former Leeds man has made 34 appearances for the German club this season, scoring four goals and registering two assists in the process. The defender has revealed that he was set to receive a call-up last November, before suffering an injury.
Koch represented Leeds for three seasons, during which he made 77 appearances. Last week, Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann stated that he’s benefited from the Premier League experience with the Whites.
