The Italian media have long been able to get themselves very excited about the prospect of Erik Lamela returning to serie A. That excitement built when Lamela played himself into his best form, and even the Argentine’s prolonger injury absense didn’t kill it.

Just under a week ago Sport Witness covered claims from Italy of Inter Milan interest, and Daniel Levy setting a transfer price for the player’s exit. Tottenham would be asking for €18m and Inter, naturally, would prefer to negotiate that figure down.

Inter are looking to add an attacker, especially if Ivan Perisic is granted his transfer wish, and Lamela has long been the go-to guy, despite not being the same type of player as the Croatian.

Tuttosport this weekend go against the previous tide and talk Lamela’s chances down, saying a ‘year in the infirmary’ has reduced the Tottenham player’s standing, and there are more attractive alternatives.

Erik Lamela must really know times are tough if the Italian media are starting to talk down a transfer.
