West Ham United continue to look like a threat to take Jonathan Tah away from Bayer Leverkusen this summer.
An update on the defender’s situation is today brought by Sky journalist Florian Plettenberg, who highlights the wish from manager Xabi Alonso to hold onto the player at the club.
The coach is ‘pushing’ for the 27-year-old’s stay, and the problem is his low release clause, which stands at €18m.
Plettenberg writes that ‘many clubs’ from England and Italy are interested in the player, and West Ham are actually the only mentioned in the story.
German outlet Kicker also bring some details regarding Tah’s situation, also highlighting Xabi Alonso’s desire to keep him.
It’s claimed that Bayer Leverkusen have still not written off the chances of him staying, even though club director Simon Rolfes acknowledges the chances of losing the player.
“If he doesn’t see the opportunity, he’s still our player. There’s definitely a chance that he’ll stay.”
Regarding the low release clause, the chief points out that the player is interested in moving to the Premier League, even though West Ham do not get a mention in the story this time.
“He always had the goal of playing in the Premier League. That was also part of the talks back then. We tried to find a solution that was interesting for both sides. We found it.”
On Tuesday morning, Sky had already reported a ‘contact’ from West Ham for the signing.
