Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku has been on loan at AS Roma since last summer and his future beyond this season remains uncertain.
The striker arrived in Italy for the first time when Inter Milan signed him in 2019, when Antonio Conte was in charge at the San Siro. The latter has been without a job for a year and is contention to become Napoli manager from next season.
Sport Mediaset state Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis isn’t willing to give up on the former Chelsea manager and is ready to do everything possible to hire him.
This could include signing Lukaku in the summer.
If Conte were to request for Lukaku, the report states De Laurentiis ‘wouldn’t say no’ to him. In short, the president is willing to make an effort to sign the 30-year-old from the Blues.
The possibility of the Belgium international moving to the Naples club is also discussed by Gazzetta dello Sport. He will turn 31 years of age in May and already earns a hefty salary at Chelsea.
These factors won’t put off De Laurentiis as Gazzetta state he would be ‘ready to make an effort’ to bring Lukaku to Napoli, if Conte were to request his signing.
Even without Conte, Napoli still need at least one top striker in order to help them return to the top and Lukaku could be an option for them in the summer.
Their need to strengthen the position will increase if Victor Osimhen is sold in the summer.
On Monday, Calciomercato reported Chelsea could be the Nigerian’s next club and if that were to be case, Napoli may request Lukaku as part of the deal.
