Sporting Club de Portugal midfielder Morten Hjulmand is good enough to play for Manchester United, Manchester City or Real Madrid.
That’s according to Viaplay expert Per Frimann, via Tipsbladet, who believes Hjulmand would be an ideal fit under Ruben Amorim at Manchester United.
Hjulmand has been impressing with the Portuguese side since joining them in a €19.5m deal from Lecce in 2023.
He’s now a key player at the club and was for Amorim during his time in charge. That has, inevitably, led to links with Manchester United.
The 25-year-old is regularly linked with a move to the Premier League as a result of his performances in Portugal. Manchester United are long-term admirers, watching Sporting often.
Manchester City are in that mix too, with Brian Riemer, Denmark coach singing the midfielder’s praises last year. He insisted that the Sporting man is good enough to play for them. In fact, he made it clear he could play for any of the top five in England.
That is a sentiment Frimann shares, as he tipped the player to join Manchester United, Manchester City or Real Madrid in the near future.
“He has quickly become captain at Sporting, and he is a player that many clubs could use. It’s one thing you want a defensive midfielder, but you need someone who has the whole package,” he said.
“When Manchester United brought Casemiro, for example, he didn’t have the whole package, because he had grown tired, and he had grown old. This guy (Hjulmand) is in his prime, and there is no doubt that he would be able to fit in with Amorim at United.
“But he could certainly also fit in at Manchester City, where they will go out and get a replacement (for Rodri).
“Now I might be talking a little bit full, but we also know that Real Madrid are looking for a central midfielder.
“You have a former sporting director from Sporting, Hugo Viana, who has picked him up in Lecce and who has scouted all over Europe, who will be sporting director at City.
“When he has scouted all over Europe to get a player for Sporting in particular, and he finds someone in Lecce who is doing very well but has not yet made an impact in the Danish national team, then you have something emotional in that process also.”
