Douglas Luiz’s decision to leave Manchester City for Aston Villa on a permanent transfer in 2019 has not only helped him establish himself in the Premier League, but it also saw him make his debut for Brazil.

The midfielder has been a regular figure in Dean Smith’s starting lineup in the league and has made 52 appearances since the start of last season.

Luiz has largely been used as a defensive midfielder this term, while he can also be deployed in central midfield.

The Villa player seems to be the ideal candidate to bolster Juventus’ midfield, at least according to former Napoli manager Gianni Di Marzio.

Di Marzio is of the belief the South American and his compatriot, Grêmio’s Matheus Henrique, will be good candidates for the Serie A winners to strengthen their midfield.

“Juventus are missing something in midfield. If I have to give a name, Douglas Luiz of Aston Villa in my opinion would be ideal. Then there is another Brazilian, Matheus Henrique of Gremio, who is very strong,” Di Marzio told Radio Bianconera, as relayed by Tutto Juve.

Luiz’s current deal at Villa Park runs down in 2023 and considering his importance to the club, Smith’s side will not let him leave without hefty compensation.
