When a club accepted to pay €8.5m to Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic for Josip Juranovic, it didn’t really come as a surprise.
The Croatia international made it clear during the World Cup that he was a player worth gambling on, and while the amount wasn’t shocking, his destination was a bit more.
That’s because it was Union Berlin ready to meet Celtic’s demands, especially as spending that amount of money on him would mean he would be their new record purchase.
It was a big gamble for the Bundesliga side, and yet it was one they wanted to take, and it’s already paying off.
Since arriving, he has picked up one goal and three assists, as he found the back of the net and teed up a teammate in Thursday night’s 3-1 win over Ajax.
The former Celtic man is ‘delivering quality’ down the right hand side of Union’s set up, and it appears they have ‘once again landed a bull’s eye’ with his purchase.
As to what Celtic will make of all this? They’re just happily counting the money and now using Alistair Johnston, whom they bought from CF Montréal in January.
