Just yesterday, we covered the first interview that Willian gave since leaving Arsenal. The winger spoke to Corinthians TV about his move back to his childhood club, claiming he wasn’t happy in London, and that motivated him to leave the Gunners.
Now the 33-year-old spoke to the Brazilian media for the first time since the transfer. He was officially presented by Corinthians and had a press conference to discuss his situation.
Willian claimed once again that he wasn’t comfortable at The Emirates. This time, he said things didn’t go according to plan at the London side, and that’s why he left two years before the end of his contract.
“I wasn’t feeling happy where I was. Now, arriving at Corinthians, it’s an environment where I feel happy, an environment where everyone received me very well. I’m very happy to be here again,” said Willian (via ESPN).
“Unfortunately, the project that I thought could work at Arsenal did not. Unfortunately, it didn’t work. We couldn’t do what we wanted, both the club and I, and that’s why I ended up making this decision to leave the club, to terminate the contract to return to Corinthians. That was my decision.”
Willian, who has been a Corinthians fan since he was a child, grew up at the club’s academy and made his senior debut for them. And since he took a huge pay cut to accept the move, he now claims money was the least important thing in this situation.
“Honestly, there comes a time when the financial part is not the most important. The conversations I had with the club’s board of directors, with the president, and the desire they showed to have William again at Corinthians are worth a lot more than any money.”
