West Ham United signed Nikola Vlašić from CSKA Moscow in 2021 and his return to the Premier League didn’t go as per the plan.
The attacking midfielder was restricted to 19 league appearances, which included only six starts. He managed a goal and two assists from 36 matches in all competitions for the Hammers last season.
Given the lack of impact,West Ham agreed to let the 24-year-old join Torino on a season-long loan deal in the last window. The Turin club have an option to make his stay permanent for €15m.
The Croatia international has had an instant impact in Italy, scoring three goals in six matches.
TuttoMercatoWeb deputy director Raimondo De Magistris shared his views on Serie A summer signings who have had an instant impact at their clubs and could see their valuation rise if they maintain form throughout the season.
“We close the review with the one who, by detachment, is the best known of the seven players. He moved to Everton when he was still too young, then returned to Russia to become – for three years – one of the best players in the league,” De Magistris said about Vlašić.
“The subsequent attention of the big names, including Milan, and the decision in 2021 to try again the adventure in the Premier League, at West Ham.
“It doesn’t work, again. And then Torino take advantage of the opportunity to take him on loan with the right of redemption set at €15m. He is worth it all, he is worth even more.
“Six appearances and three goals, he is the best player of this Torino by figures and he is only 24 years old. Juric has in his hands a champion who seems to have finally found his dimension in Serie A.”
