Last we checked, Thierry Henry was still the favourite to land the Aston Villa job following the sacking of Steve Bruce.

The Belgium assistant manager was reported to have held a meeting over the weekend about taking over at Villa Park, and while no decision had been taken, that did propel him to top of the list.

Already touted for the role over the summer, the former France manager could end up having a slightly more appealing option at his disposal if the latest rumours in his home country are true.

According to freelance journalist Romain Molina, Leonardo Jardim is set to be sacked from Monaco over the next few days, and contacts have already been made with Thierry Henry regarding him taking over from the Portuguese.

He would be joining the likes of Youri Tielemans and Nacer Chadli, whom he already knows well from his time at his current position, and the prospect of managing a team in the Champions League could be more enticing than doing so in the Championship.

The task at hand, however, would be far more difficult, as Monaco currently sit 18th in Ligue 1 with just one win in nine games.

We’ll have to wait and see about this, as Jardim has yet to be sacked, but if he does and Henry isn’t at Aston Villa, then it could become an issue.
