If you’ve been following all the stories regarding Manchester United on the transfer window, then the name Krépin Diatta might mean something to you.
The young Senegalese forward became something of a revelation at Sarpsborg in Norway this season, scoring eight goals and picking up eight assists in 27 games at the age of 18, and attracted interest from Manchester United.
There was a big fuss over it because the Senegal U20 made it clear he would love to play at Old Trafford one day, and it would’ve been a very nice story had he signed.
Well, he came very close to, as Het Belang Van Limburg explain the Red Devils really wanted him, to the point where they started the process to sign him, only then turned the opportunity down when they realised he didn’t have European papers and wouldn’t get a work permit due to his lack of appearances for his national team (currently at 0).
After that, Diatta voiced an interest in moving to France, where he felt Ligue 1 would be a great stepping stone for him, but that never materialised either.
Instead, the young striker has signed for Club Brugges in Belgium for the modest sum of just under £2m, and where he’ll hope to continue his fine form.
If that happens, then a call up to his national team probably won’t be far behind.
That means caps, and caps mean work permit, and the Manchester United dream stays alive.
