Chelsea have Rafael Leão on their agenda after failing to sign the AC Milan star in the summer window.
Former Torino defender Massimo Brambati now works as an agent, and has provided an update on the Blues’ efforts to sign the 23-year-old.
“Renew Leão? They tell me they are working for Leão at Chelsea,” he told TMW Radio’s Maracanà.
Brambati is not the forward’s agent, who is managed by Jorge Mendes. The player’s development and growth at the San Siro have caught the attention of other clubs.
Calciomercato state this includes Chelsea, but the Serie A side has relied on his €150m release clause to fend off suitors. The Rossoneri use the clause to ‘continue to cling and repel the assaults, destined to be more and more insistent and insistent’.
The Portugal international’s deal expires in 2024 and the club’s failure to tie him to a new deal soon could see them risk losing security over his clause, next summer.
His current salary is €1.5m annually. Milan are working to raise it, in order to come close to the €7m per year salary requested by Mendes.
The super-agent also wants his client’s buyout clause to be reduced to €120-130m, so that it can help Leão draw more concrete interest from elsewhere. On the other hand, it will ‘fully protect’ Milan from ‘facing the prospect of losing their jewel’.
Chelsea continue to be regularly named as Leão’s suitor. This is unlikely to change unless he leaves the San Siro or Milan tie the attacker down to a new deal.
