Before Matheus Nunes said yes to Wolverhampton Wanderers, it was many times repeated by the Portuguese media that he was not keen on making the move.

Focused on playing for a club who’d fight for titles and feature in the Champions League, the player was said to prefer staying at Sporting rather than joining Wolves or even West Ham United, whose attempt was confirmed by David Moyes.

Even though Nunes ended up agreeing to the move to Molineux and should be in England today, the Lisbon media already wonders how long he’ll stay at Bruno Lage’s side.

Radio Renascença today featured an interview with Alexandre Santos, who managed Nunes at Estoril and for Sporting’s U23 side. The coach insisted it won’t take long for Nunes to draw attention from bigger Premier League clubs.

“He’s not going to one of the best clubs in England, but with his style of play and the seasons he’s had at Sporting, it won’t take him long to leave Wolves,” said Alexandre Santos.

“He has everything to reach a higher level, he is taking a competitive leap, but he has another leap to take soon.”

Wolves are reportedly signing Nunes in a deal worth €45m, plus a potential €5m in bonuses. As reported by the Portuguese media today, he was convinced both by manager Bruno Lage as well as by a contract which will earn him six times more than he used to pick up at Sporting.
