Arsenal struggled to consistently get the best out of Nuno Tavares during his time at the Emirates.
After loan stints at multiple clubs, Tavares was moved on to Lazio in the summer and has had a brilliant start to life in Italy.
From left-back, Tavares has racked up seven assists in Serie A and has arguably been one of the best players in the competition under Marco Baroni.
The Portuguese is only on loan and Lazio have the obligation to buy him if certain conditions are met, and the feeling is that he will join them permanently at some point soon.
In a chat with Il Messaggero, club president Claudio Lotito was asked about the possibility of moving Tavares on next summer and he insisted that the defender will not be sold.
He said, as relayed by TMW: “Already a capital gain? I won’t sell him even for €70m. We have beaten off a lot of competition from the big clubs for the fullback.”
Those are certainly big words from Lotito and it shows how highly he rates the new signing, who is having a great spell in Rome.
He’s getting forward constantly and creating in the final third. That is something he showed glimpses of at Arsenal too, but there was a burden of tracking back.
