The Bergamo edition of Friday’s Corriere della Sera has a big article telling Atalanta to dust themselves down after their draw to Celtic, and move on with a spring in their step.
Le Dea have big aims in the Champions League this season and such is the confidence at the club that drawing 0-0 to Celtic has been seen as a big disappointment by some. There was a belief Atalanta are far superior to Brendan Rodgers’ side, especially after Celtic’s heavy defeat to Borussia Dortmund.
However, it would appear the Scottish Premiership club have put the first block down as they seek to regain a reputation of being difficult to play against in Europe.
To those Atalanta fans having doubts, a message is sent that ‘a performance like the one the other night with Celtic leaves positive feelings’.
It’s stated it ‘won’t happen very often’ that the Serie A side come across a team with the ‘attitude’ Rodgers’ team displayed this week. Corriere della Sera appear to mean that as something of a compliment, saying Celtic manned ‘barricades to the bitter end’, and then insisting this is an entirely legitimate approach to football.
