The Catalan media have picked up on rumours from the UK that Barcelona could be interested in a move to sign Enzo Fernandez.
Those rumours aren’t really backed up, although Catalan newspaper Sport give what they see as Barcelona’s stance on the Chelsea player.
Fernandez signed for Chelsea in January 2023 for not far from his €120m release clause at Benfica. He’d only been at the Portuguese club since the previous June when he arrived from Argentine side River Plate for around €10m.
Hype built around the midfielder to the point Chelsea seemingly felt forced to shell out more than €100m to get in ahead of potential competition.
Perhaps a further few months at Benfica would have been more beneficial to the 23-year-old, because he’s struggled to show he’s the level of player who many expected Chelsea were signing.
Enzo Maresca clearly hasn’t been impressed recently, and Fernandez finds himself out of the Chelsea side and looking for a way to get back in.
That’s encouraged exit rumours, and regarding the Barcelona flavoured rumours it’s stated by Sport that the Argentine is seen as a market opportunity.
He’s someone who could be a good deal if Frenkie de Jong leaves, which in itself looks unrealistic.
Barcelona ‘won’t go crazy’ for the Chelsea player and this feels like a rumour which hasn’t come from any genuine grounding of Blaugrana interest.
