When Jose Mourinho was shown the door at Tottenham, Italy’s sport media quickly started linking any conceivable Italian as well any possible option in Serie A.
There was something of a conviction, for whatever reason, that Spurs would be looking for some Italian experience for their bench.
Over at Wolves it was different when the club announced Nuno Espirito Santo’s exit. A Portuguese coach taking over the role made the most sense, and it just so happened that the country’s media had been linking former Benfica boss Bruno Lage for some time.
Italy will not be out done, though, and they’ve found they’re own Portuguese connection.
Tuesday’s edition of La Nazione, a Florence based newspaper, reports Paulo Fonseca is currently favourite to take over at Fiorentina. However, it’s stated they have competition, because Wolves would ‘welcome him with open arms’.
Jorge Mendes is of course involved, and whilst this claim is not one to completely dismiss, it all feels more like the media close to Fiorentina trying to hype up the drama.
