Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly interested in signing Portuguese midfielder Samuel Costa.
There are two distinct versions of this story going around, one in the Portuguese and another in the Spanish media. Each of them say the Premier League side could be buying the player from one club this summer.
Costa, who’s a Jorge Mendes client, belongs to Braga, and had a loan spell this season at Almeria, who had a buying option over him.
So according to Diario de Almeria, the La Liga 2 club are currently closing a deal where they use that clause, and could make an immediate profit by selling him straight to Wolves.
The Spanish side are spending only €5m on the signing, and it’s said the English club could afford the €25m that will be asked for his transfer. The report claims ‘everything points out’ the player won’t be returning to Almeria after his vacation.
Well, that sounds like a credible report, but the story we now get from Portugal is completely different.
Newspaper A Bola writes that Almeria had an obligatory buying clause over Costa, which was €6.5m, but that was conditioned to their promotion to the first division, which didn’t happen.
So it’s said that Wolves are indeed negotiating for the player, although the talks are actually being done directly with his parent club Braga.
It isn’t said how much the Premier League side would pay for his move. It’s just pointed out that his career is managed by Gestifute, and he’s one of the players who the Portuguese club want to sell before they start making signings in the summer window.
Now regardless of the version we choose to believe, it looks like Wolves and Mendes are both moving for this transfer to happen.
