Last week, Salernitana director Morgan De Sanctis suggested they might have made a mistake by forcing Boulaye Dia to stay amid an offer from Wolverhampton Wanderers late in the summer transfer window.

He did reiterate that he felt the bid from Wolves, which was comprised of a €2m fee up front for a loan and an €18m option to buy, was rather insulting, but all the drama that followed with the Senegal international probably wasn’t worth it.

Now, as we enter the January transfer window, there is a chance the forward could leave, as there are some clauses in his contract that facilitate an exit, as recalled by TuttoMercatoWeb.

The first is for European clubs, which can be triggered for €21m, while the other is for teams outside of that bracket (read Saudi Arabia and potentially Qatar), which stands at €23m.

TuttoMercatoWeb then add that there is a certainty Dia ‘is preparing to take on the role of a luxury sacrifice’ that will allow Salernitana to reinvest the money elsewhere.

His desire to try something new ‘appears evident’, and his market value has ‘dropped by a third’.

Therefore, it’s January or never for the Wolves target, and the Premier League side could certainly get something done quite easily if they still want to get him.
