A few days ago, the Athletic published a story about the loan of Gonçalo Guedes from Wolverhampton Wanderers to Benfica.
There it was explained that despite an exciting start, the forward picked up an injury which is set to sideline him for the rest of the season, and that it becomes unlikely that the Eagles would move for a purchase in the summer.
Portuguese newspaper O Jogo features a story reacting to that piece today, and they end up suggesting a solution for Wolves and Benfica.
The outlet agrees that the Eagles wouldn’t like to buy Guedes at this stage, but claims that a loan extension is a scenario that ‘makes sense for all parties’.
Still, Benfica are not ready for that yet. It’s said that negotiation could only take place in the summer, because the Portuguese club must ‘sturdy the financial condition’ they will have by then, especially because the 26-year-old has a high salary at Wolves.
Guedes has two goals in eight appearances for the Eagles since his January arrival, and had been doing well at the club until the injury.
With him not having a place in Julen Lotepegui’s squad, a new loan indeed sounds like a reasonable scenario.
