Wolverhampton Wanderers have signed a player from Barcelona in the last two summer transfer windows.
After Nélson Semedo joined Wolves in 2020, Francisco Trincão arrived at Molineux, on loan from the La Liga side last summer. The two players are represented by Jorge Mendes and the super-agent has close ties with both clubs.
Trincão was not the only player Bruno Lage’s side were keen on signing for this season.
Sport on Monday explain the English club requested to take Riqui Puig on a loan deal with an option to buy, during the last summer window.
The 22-year-old struggled for regular minutes under Ronald Koeman, but he was not interested in making a switch to the Premier League and decided to continue at the Camp Nou.
Puig has struggled for minutes this campaign and Xavi Hernández replacing the Dutchman has had no impact on his situation. The midfielder made his first league start against Mallorca at the start of this month.
Sport explain Wolves are ‘still very interested’ in the player, but only to take him on a loan deal. It’s not made clear whether it is for January or next summer.
The newspaper states it will be interesting to see what Puig does ‘in the next market’, if he continues not to have prominence at Barcelona until the end of the season.
