Signed from Atletico Madrid on a loan deal this summer, Diogo Jota is having a pretty good start at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The 20-year-old has barely settled in at the Championship side, and has not only conquered a place in the starting team, but also managed to quickly accumulate impressive statistics, with five goals in eight league games.

Besides having already scored important goals against Hull City, Millwall and Bristol City, the striker had another great game on Saturday as he scored both of Wolves’ goals in the 2-1 away win against Nottingham Forest.

The Portuguese press, who have been following Jota’s steps in England closely, managed to get an interview with him this week, and talked about his quick impact in the Championship.

Jota had already spent the last season working under Nuno Espírito Santo while on a loan at Porto, and speaking to Record about it, he claims that’s the reason why his adaptation wasn’t difficult.

“It has been fast, especially for being managed by a coach who I already knew. The concept of the game that he has tried to implement at Wolves is similar to what he had in Porto. The ideas are identical! This favours my adaptation. Of course the fact that there are several Portuguese in the squad also helps me.

“We speak a lot of Portuguese in the dressing room, but we try to divide things up, that is, to express ourselves in English so that there are no divisions. This is also true for dinners.”

As Ruben Neves is also a former Porto and national team teammate, Jota was asked by Record if that makes him his best friend at the club: “I’m more connected to him. But I also get along very well with Boly, with Hélder Costa, Ivan Cavaleiro, Roderick, Reuben Vinagre…”

Jota also made sure to praise the Wolves supporters, who are apparently very easy to excite: “The fans support us immensely, sometimes even after a draw. A dribble is soon cheered with applause, even if it’s done midfield. Football is lived intensely. If I’m already known on the street? Not ye … just for a few people [laughs].”
