Wolverhampton Wanderers, Southampton and Sheffield United have joined Leeds United in showing an interest in St. Gallen’s Willem Geubbels.
That’s according to Foot Mercato, who report that Geubbels is ready to move on from Switzerland this summer and Leeds, Southampton, Sheffield United and Wolves are among the teams who are keen.
They explain that Geubbels wants to move on to the next level and the 23-year-old has no shortage of suitors to do so.
He moved to Switzerland two years ago to relaunch his career away from France and has succeeded, with 27 goals and eight assists in 92 games across all competitions to date.
He’s been St. Gallen’s undisputed star and that has attracted the interest of numerous European clubs. Indeed, the Swizz side refused several offers in January despite €8m being put on the table.
A report last month stated that Leeds were interested in his signature and FT back that up. But they now face potential competition from Southampton, Sheffield United and Wolves as well.
There is also Union Berlin and Cologne in the Bundesliga and FC Twente in the Netherlands showing an interest. If they are to get their man, they’ll have to open their chequebooks.
St. Gallen have accepted it is almost impossible to keep Geubbels but have set the bar high for him. They want around €10m, a figure which has already seen off French interest.
Whether it is enough to do the same to the Premier League quartet, remains to be seen, but they’re in the mix, nonetheless.
