Believe it or not, it’s being claimed Wolverhampton Wanderers have not given up on signing Matheus Nunes from Sporting.
According to a new report from journalist Bruno Andrade, Wolves are preparing a ‘new and last’ attempt to sign the midfielder.
The story claims that a meeting in England is expected to happen ‘this week’. That conversation will take place to set the details of the new offer from Bruno Lage’s side, as Sporting are demanding at least €45m for the sale.
Bruno Andrade recalls that Nunes has been turning down offers from the Premier League lately. It’s said he rejected an offer from West Ham last week and had already blocked an approach from Wolves as well.
The Hammers’ offer was confirmed both by their manager David Moyes and by Lions’ boss Ruben Amorim, with them both claiming the player didn’t want the move to London. According to the Portuguese media, he’d only leave his club for a side who’ll play in the Champions League and fight for titles.
Even though West Ham’s interest was in the spotlight in the past few days, the Lisbon press always made clear that Wolves had never forgotten about the player and could still return for him this summer. Now it seems they’re indeed still hopeful they can take him to Molineux in the final weeks of the window.
