Currently 16th and 17th respectively in the Championship after 26 games, Wolverhampton and QPR aren’t exactly displaying the form required to regain a Premier League spot.
Thirteen points off the first playoff spot, it would take a monumental second half of the season for either to finish in the top six, which would need to include a lot of goals and some better defending.
For example, QPR have only scored 25 goals in 26 games, while Wolves’ 33 isn’t exactly spine tingling stuff either, and both clubs are trying to rectify that according to Football.fr.
The French website report on Wednesday afternoon that Ian Holloway and Paul Lambert have targeted Everton’s Arouna Koné as a potential target for the January transfer window.
The 33-year-old’s contract is up at the end of the season, and a cheap deal could probably easily be arranged with the Toffees, with Ronald Koeman barely using the veteran forward this season.
With six appearances to his name this season, totalling 76 minutes, and two goals, both in the EFL Cup, the Ivory Coast international is in dire need of game time, and could rebound in the Championship if the right offer comes along.
However, the second-tier duo are likely to face some tough competition, as both Swansea and Crystal Palace are also keen on signing Koné, as they look to maintain their top flight status for another season.
Championship or Premier League? It seems it’s all going to come down to playing time guarantees.
