Although Alvaro Morata and Gelson Martins don’t play in the same position, the Spanish media is pretty sure that the arrival of the Spanish striker at Atletico Madrid will result in the departure of the Portuguese winger.
That’s why Gelson’s transfer is being much commented on today, with AS bringing an update on the situation.
They claim that Gelson is being loaned out, and Atletico will only agree a deal with a club who’ll make sure he has enough minutes for the rest of the season.
It’s claimed that many sides have been interested in the player, but the best choice would be a move to England, where the league suits his game better.
Despite the preference for the Premier League, AS doesn’t say which English clubs would like to sign him.
Outlet Columna Cero covers this story today, and gathers some clubs who have recently been linked to the player. The list includes Milan, Arsenal, Besiktas, Monaco and Wolverhampton.
Arsenal were linked by the Portuguese press, while Wolverhampton have been pointed out by Mundo Deportivo for being one of the clubs who Jorge Mendes has a good relationship with.
Atletico Madrid are currently being sued by Sporting for signing Gelson Martins as a free agent back in last year, when he broke his contract with the Portuguese side.
Wolves have already found a deal with Sporting for the transfer of Rui Patrício, and could maybe have an easy communication with the Portuguese side to sort a permanent deal for Gelson as well.
The pieces fit quite well together.
