Now that former Sporting president Bruno de Carvalho has been voted out of the club, it’s more likely that Wolverhampton will try to find a friendly agreement for the transfer of Rui Patrício this summer.
The Portuguese goalkeeper has been signed by the Championship winners for free this month, after he rescinded his contract, but may end up costing a few million once the clubs find a deal.
This possibility is reported by Lisbon newspaper A Bola today, as they cover the new plans at Sporting now that Carvalho is finally gone.
A Bola claims that since the former president was voted out, the chance to find an agreement with Wolves in now possible, and this is an issue that the new board will be taking care of.
As an example of these friendly departures, they take William Carvalho. The player has a €45m release clause, and was expected to leave for around €30m. Now after he rescinded a contract, he could be worth €10m in one of these deals.
The big reason Wolves have signed Patrício for free is Bruno de Carvalho.
The Premier League side and Sporting had found an agreement of €18m for the player, but the former president ended up demanding more money, something that encouraged other player to also seek to cancel their contracts for ‘just cause’.
Carvalho’s behaviour both before and after players were attacked at the club’s training ground was a trigger for a chunk of the team to seek a way out.
Now with the former president out of the club, it seems that Wolves and Sporting don’t want to be enemies. At the end of the day, not many of those involved liked Bruno anyway.
