Wolverhampton Wanderers full-back Ruben Vinagre is now on ‘top of the list’ of Benfica’s targets for the summer, according to reports today.
Newspaper O Jogo writes that the player has the approval from manager Jorge Jesus to arrive at the Lisbon side next season.
Vinagre is currently enjoying a loan spell at Portuguese side Famalicão, and has been impressing in the 13 league appearances he’s made for them so far.
To go get him, Benfica expect the benefit of their good relationship with agent Jorge Mendes, who’s seen as a ‘strategic partner’ and is linked to the player as well.
O Jogo writes that Vinagre hasn’t been given the chances to get a place in Wolves’ squad, and considering that he was signed by the Molineux side for only €2m, the Eagles now expect to get him for less than €10m, maybe even on a loan with a future purchase clause.
The 21-year-old has a contract with the Premier League side until 2024, and in case Nuno Espírito Santo really doesn’t count on him for next season, Benfica undoubtedly seem like a good option for his career going forward.
