Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Santiago Bueno may have been called up by the Uruguay national team, but he doesn’t seem ready to play for them yet.
According to Sport890 journalist Sebas Giovanelli, the Wolves player has been removed from the squad which is facing Chile on Friday.
Manager Marcelo Bielsa is taking 23 players to the Estadio Centenario, and Bueno, as well as Cristian Olivera, are missing from that list.
Wolves signed the defender from Girona in a €12m deal in the final days of the transfer window, and it was already known he had a thigh injury.
That’s the reason he hadn’t played for the Spanish side this season yet, even though he was taken to the bench for the match against Sevilla on the 26th of August.
Bueno’s absence is quite a blow for Uruguay, who see him as an important player in the team. They have a tough challenge against Chile, as that’s the opening round of the World Cup qualifiers.
Uruguay will then be back in action on Tuesday, when they face Ecuador, and we shall see whether the Wolves player will be ready for that match.
