The front pages of both Mundo Deportivo and Sport today talk of Barcelona moving for free signings in the next summer window. It’s thought that would be a good way for the club to work with Spain’s FFP rules, although the wages involved and the club’s bloated squad could be a hindrance to the plans.
Nevertheless, both newspapers bring a list of players whose contracts expire next summer and who are on the Blaugrana list. There’s multiple options from the Premier League, and then a separate article from Sport again drags up interest in Wolves’ Ruben Neves.
It’s stated the Portugal international is ‘on the table’ for Barcelona, just like the Wolves player has been in previous windows. Despite that, it’s also said there’s doubts at the Catalan club over whether Neves could replace Sergio Busquets with ‘maximum efficiency’.
Therefore, Benfica’s Enzo Fernandez is also being looked at. Wolves have Neves on a contract lasting until June 2024, so are under no immediate pressure of losing him for free.
There would likely be multiple clubs keen should he be available next summer, meaning Barcelona probably wouldn’t get the bargain they’re looking for.
That added to them not being sure about the Wolves player would place doubt on the move, but these rumours are likely to continue.
