Portugal face Spain on Tuesday evening in their final match of the UEFA Nations League.
Manager Fernando Santos had to name a 23-man squad ahead of the fixture, and that meant he had to leave two players out of the selection.
Record report the unlucky pair are Goncalo Ramos and Pedro Neto. The Benfica player was only called up after Rafa Silva made his surprise decision to quit international football.
Wolves’ attacker Neto had had a disappointing international break, failing to get off the bench during the match against Czech Republic, and then failing to even get on it for tonight’s game against Spain.
So far this season, Neto has played eight games for Wolves, with seven of those in the Premier League. The 22-year-old is yet to find the back of the net or contribute an assist.
What this means for his chances of making it to Santos’ World Cup isn’t clear, although he’ll surely be motivated to impress for Wolves in the coming weeks and catch the Portugal manager’s attention.
