Wolverhampton Wanderers star Raul Jimenez is currently playing with ‘fear’ and will return to his best once he can get over it.

That’s according to former Mexico international Oribe Peralta, who has commented on the Wolves star and his recent struggles.

Jimenez made a remarkable recovery from a traumatic head injury last year, after fracturing his skull in a sickening clash with Arsenal’s David Luiz in November 2020.

Some believed he would not be able to return from the injury but that has not proven to be the case, with Jimenez returning to full action while wearing a protective head brace.

The striker has struggled to replicate the form he enjoyed before the injury, though, with the head brace proving a particular problem for him.

He managed six goals and four assists in 34 games last season but is yet to score this year, with injury issues seeing him miss the first two games and currently keeping him out of the first team squad for the foreseeable future.

Those niggling issues haven’t helped him, but Peralta believes it is another problem, fear, which is holding his international teammate back.

“Raul is a guy that since I met him, I saw that he had impressive qualities and this is something that happened to him is something that we all risk,” he told Marca.

“But well, I think that the moment he gets rid of that fear that he still has, because I see him like that, he doesn’t compete in plays that he did before, I think he will return to the way he was before.”
