On July 27th, 2019, Patrick Cutrone arrived in Milan having been sent back to Italy from AC Milan’s US preseason training camp.
Then 21-years-of-age, he looked completely bewildered as he tried to find whoever was supposed to be picking him up from Malpensa.
The Italian media had made it very clear Cutrone hadn’t wanted to leave the club he’d been at since he was aged just nine, but the Rossoneri had other ideas and had agreed to sell him to Wolves.
A couple of days later he was back at the airport, set to fly to England to complete the transfer. Looking a little brighter and cornered by the media, he said: “I’m fine. Disappointed? Well, you saw too… I have nothing to say. I’m ready, always.”
During his first Wolves season he was given 291 Premier League minutes before being sent to Fiorentina on loan. Things went a little better and in 837 Serie A minutes he scored four times and added two assists.
Another loan was agreed last summer, with a view to a permanent move. It quickly became clear La Viola didn’t want to go through with that, and Cutrone arrived back at Wolves this month, making four appearances since.
He’s now expected to sign for Valencia until the end of the season, with Mundo Deportivo reporting he arrived at Manises Airport this morning.
Javi Gracia hasn’t asked for the signing, the move for Cutrone is nothing to do with the manager, and he’d wanted a midfielder or defender instead. Having wanted to leave in the summer, Gracia was forced to stay and is now seemingly forced to accept signings he hasn’t requested.
That’s not to say the Cutrone deal is completed, although it ‘seems very close’. Mundo Deportivo and others in the Spanish media don’t sound very hopeful that the Wolves man will play a big part if the move goes through.
