Ajax have got themselves a serious Matthijs de Ligt problem to solve.
It’s been thought all summer that the defender would be sold for around €75m, similar to what Frenkie de Jong moved to Barcelona for.
However, De Telegraaf report Juventus have offered €50m, believing the player made an agreement last summer with Ajax that he could leave this time around for €45-50m. Since then, his value has gone through the roof, and the Dutch club want more. There’s nothing in writing backing up this agreement, but Mino Raiola is involved so anything could happen.
De Telegraaf say this shouldn’t really have consequences for the signing of Edson Alvarez, who it’s stated is also interesting Wolves, West Ham and Crystal Palace.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have been repeatedly linked with the Club America defender, and West Ham have been involved too, but not so much Crystal palace.
The Dutch newspaper reports Wolves have even sent an official to the US, where the Gold Cup has been held, to try and push their case.
Mexico beat the hosts 1-0 in the final in the early hours of this morning.
English competition is described as potential ‘hijackers’, but Wolves have been linked for a while. Ajax believe they can get Alvarez for €15m, whereas in Mexico it’s been made clear he’ll go the highest bidder.
