Wolverhampton Wanderers have made efforts to try and sign RC Lens’ Kevin Danso in the winter market.
On Monday, Foot Mercato reported the Ligue 1 side have rejected Wolves’ €22m bid for the defender. It was said he’s not pushing for a move, which has also been reported elsewhere.
L’Equipe state Wolves’ first offer was around €19m and they returned with a new bid of €22m on Monday.
The French club have rejected the latest bid tabled by Vítor Pereira’s side as they have no plans to let him leave, after selling Brice Samba and Abdukodir Khusanov earlier in this window.
Danso, for his part, seems to have changed his stance on a move. The centre-back ‘wants to leave’ Lens and is keen on a move to the Premier League.
Wolves aren’t the only club in the picture to sign the 26-year-old before the window closes on Monday. Another report from L’Equipe states Rennes have prioritised signing a centre-back and are eyeing a move for Danso.
Rennes president Arnaud Pouille knows the Austria international from his time at Lens. He was the sporting director when Danso arrived at the French club in 2021 and has good ties with the player and his entourage.
L’Equipe believe this could help Rennes sign the Wolves target, but they haven’t made an offer yet.
Lens have also softened their position on selling Danso. The report now states they need €25m to sanction the Austrian defender’s transfer.
With the player open to moving to the Premier League, Wolves have to raise their bid by €3m to meet Lens’ request to sign him.
However, it’s worth noting the continually changing and therefore contradictory claims on what Lens and Danso think about a winter transfer.
