Wolverhampton Wanderers will have to pay €4m if they wish to bring Nuno Espirito Santo back to the club from Al Ittihad.
That’s according to Saudi Economic newspaper Al-Eqtisadiah, who say the Portuguese boss is not interested in a return to Molineux.
Wolves are on the hunt for a new boss following the decision to sack Bruno Lage over a week ago but are yet to find a replacement for him.
They had appeared set to appoint Julen Lopetegui after he left Sevilla, but the Spanish boss decided against the move, preferring to remain in Spain for the time being.
That’s left Wolves desperately scrambling to find an alternative, a search which has quickly resulted in them looking at Nuno Espirito Santo.
Reports in England have made it clear they’re in talks and that’s been confirmed by current club Al Ittihad, whose president, Anmar Al-Haili, has spoken publicly on the matter and insisted they don’t want Espirito Santo to depart.
Al-Eqtisadiah follow that up today stating that sources have informed them that Espirito Santo has a €4m release clause in his contract which will have to be paid by Wolves if he shows a desire to leave.
However, at the moment that has not happened, with them even carrying quotes stating Espirito Santo isn’t interested in a return.
“The coach made it clear to the federation’s management that he has no intention of leaving the club during the coming period, and that he is committed to his contract,” this unnamed source states.
That, then, could presumably be the end of that for Wolves, if the stance is correct.
