When Rafa Mir signed for Wolves during the 2018 January transfer window, the move was quite controversial.

Having come up through the Valencia academy, the forward had been expected to progress and shine with the Spanish side, widely considered one of their better prospects in recent years.

Valencia had rejected several attempts from Real Madrid to sign the player, which shows just how highly rated he was, but they weren’t able to do anything when Wolves arrived for the signing.

Mir then struggled to make an impact at the English club and was sent on loan to Las Palmas and the Nottingham Forest. After mixed success during those two periods he then joined SD Huesca on an 18-month loan deal, starting in summer 2019.

Helping Huesca get promoted to the top division, Mir has continued to shine. The 23-year-old has scored three goals and added an assist in his past four matches, and is being raved about in the media closest to Huesca and also in national publications like Marca.

Huesca have an option to make the move permanent, something they announced when Mir was presented, and Wolves may well be regretting losing control of the player’s future.
