Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Ki-Jana Hoever has been labelled as ‘a real miscalculation’ for PSV Eindhoven as his loan spell with the Dutch side goes from bad to worse.
The youngster returned to his homeland on a temporary basis in the summer, joining PSV until the end of the season in the hope of getting regular minutes.
He had fallen down the pecking order at Molineux, having struggled to establish himself under Nuno Espirito Santo or Bruno Lage since joining from Liverpool.
The move to PSV, who spent the summer targeting youngsters to develop under Ruud van Nistelrooy, was supposed to be something of a restart for the defender after stagnating somewhat at Wolves.
It has not worked out that way, though, with him struggling to impress early on and receiving criticism on an almost weekly basis ever since.
“We had actually already seen from Ki-Jana Hoever in the preparation that he would not be it,” he told the Peesjevee Podcast, relayed by Soccer News.
“Defensively he is far too weak. I really think that is the biggest PSV disappointment of this season, he has proved to be a real miscalculation so far.
“On the ball he has quite good qualities, but defensively he is far too weak. And Hoever is an expensive customer anyway; hired with high expectations from Wolverhampton Wanderers and was actually the intended basic right-back.
“If you now look at how many minutes he has made, it is very disappointing.”
